Tuesday 21st February 2017 – House of Commons Event – Minister Joe McHugh and Robin Walker MP
February 21, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 11:00 pm
The Directors of TLICN are delighted to announce that our next event will be held on Tuesday 21st February at The House of Commons. The evening will commence with a reception followed by a discussion relating to the topic of “Navigating Brexit”.
Our thanks go once again to Dr Alasdair McDonnell, SDLP MP for Belfast South, for kindly sponsoring this very special and enjoyable event.
The conversation regarding the UK’s exit from Europe is a very interesting one, especially it’s impact and the implications for Ireland.
Understandably, due to the unfolding political circumstances in Ireland, An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, is unable to attend the forthcoming London Irish Construction Network event in the House of Commons.
Minister Joe McHugh, Minister for the Diaspora, will now represent the Irish Government at this event. Joe McHugh became a Fine Gael public representative in June 1999 when he was elected to represent the Milford electoral area as a Member of Donegal County Council. He was elected to Seanad Éireann in 2002 and served as Fine Gael Seanad Spokesperson on Community, Rural, Gaeltacht and Marine Affairs from 2002-2007. Deputy McHugh was re-elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael TD for Donegal North-East in February 2011.
Robin Walker MP will also attend to represent the UK Government. Mr Walker is the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union. From 2003 to 2010 he pursued a successful career in business, working his way up from executive to partner at Finsbury Group, and he advised the Chief Executives and Finance Directors of some of the country’s leading industrial companies on their communications with the press and the financial community. Robin has been the MP for Worcester since 2010 and was re-elected in 2015.
Although we have had to make some last minute re-arrangements, we are certain that the night will remain both illuminating and entertaining.
Please note, numbers for this event are restricted and we expect demand to be high. This event is available to TLICN Members only.
